Big Buddha.

Visible from most of the south of Phuket, the Big Buddha sits atop the Nakkerd Hills and looks down over Chalong, Kata and Rawai. It cost 30 million baht to construct and is 45 metres tall. Next to it stands a smaller golden image that's actually made of solid brass.

The Weekend Market is Phukets largest night market. It's a fascinating jumble of secondhand goods, curios, and souvenirs, as well as great local food to sample. Finding something original and unique at this night market takes a little perseverance, but there's enough to choose from so exploration will generally be rewarded with the ideal souvenir.

Phuket's Bangla Road really comes to life after sunset, when the road is closed to traffic and becomes a 400-metre festival of neon lights, loud music and cheap beer. Jammed most nights of the year, it's quite a friendly and lively place to walk around, with dozens of bars and clubs competing with each other for customers.
